You can then safely destroy or sell the old piece(s). The additemwmat command can be used to specify a material higher than the default Tier 4 Veridium. In order to get the upgradeable armor piece(s), you'll need to download the AddItem With Console Improved mod, enable the console on your game, and then add a new copy of the piece(s) to your inventory. If you've already gotten any pieces of the armor set, this mod will not alter them.

This mod makes the Ancient Elven Armor set upgradeable to Tier 7 Dragonbone. However, since it's only Tier 4, it can't compete with high-tier light armor, and the only top-tier unique medium armor sets in the game are Wade's Dragonskin sets which are 1) mutually exclusive from each other & 2) mutually exclusive with Wade's Dragonscale and Dragonbone sets. I also like playing elves, so I'm very fond of the Ancient Elven Armor set.
I like playing melee rogues, and sometimes light armor doesn't cut it.
